Ottoman Sultans
Another update on my life if anyone is interested. Around two weeks ago, I visted the new (ok, it opened some time back, but I have not been inside lah!) branch of the Asian Civilisations Museum at Empress Place for the first time.
I was there to see a new travelling exhibition called "From the land of Ottoman Sultans". Well, some background, the Ottomans were rulers of one of the world's largest and longest-lasting empires. And the reason why this exhibition is well worth going to is......... drumroll please...........because this is the first time that Turkey has lent such a large number of precious artefacts out of the country. So unless, you have been to Turkey, its unlikely for you to have ever seen any of the exhibits!
It was quite an interesting exhibition and of course it helped that the volunteer musuem guide guiding the tour session I was attending happened to be my friend! So I had an opportunity after the tour session to pump her for more information and have her repeat sections of her tour that I did not catch. Hee hee.
Well, its really interesting to learn about a different culture that existed in a different time period. The artifacts on display are really well-preserved and it was really interesting to learn about the Ottomans, their culture and lifestyle.
Ok, but that's me, I like such stuff so I enjoyed my musuem visit very much. I had a chance to explore some of the other permenant exhibits at the museum too and to my surprise, the ACM actually has the largest collection of South East Asian artifacts in the world!! Yep, bet you didn't know that too right?!! Yes, yes, before I launch into my speech on how all of us should support our local museums, I better stop here, but do check out the Ottoman exhibition if you are interested. Its on for a limited time period only.

Wah, this would have been an exhibition I would have liked to see too. I went to Istanbul once and fell in love. Quite magical. Hey you two, guess what, my book (chinese painting one) finally arrived at the museum bookshop...the one that D kept making me want to steal. =)
