Drunk!!

Nope, it was not moi who was drunk but I was close enough. I have just gotten back from a fren's hens' night and the bunch of us got her SO wasted she had to by helped by two people into the car! It would have been funny if I was not also feeling bad for being one of the culprits for getting her so drunk. How drunk she was, well, so drunk that when we repeatedly knocked on the door of the washroom cubicle at the club, she was too drunk to open the door. In the end, one of us had to climb over from the neighboring cubicle into her cubicle to help her get out!

The plan had been in the works for weeks. Making dinner reservations at the restaurant, reservations at the club, with Dragon Girl being the Chairman of the Hens' Night Committee and me being her sidekick. Ha ha. Bridal veil- checked, sash-checked, plastic flowers- checked, camera-checked. We were all ready for the big night. I split the work with Dragon Girl, she will arrive early at the dinner place to "chope" our table and I would go to the bride-to-be's office to stress her so we will not be too late for dinner. As I was in charge of the sash and plastic flowers, I had brought them along with me and made the bride to be wear the sash which said "Bride To Be" on it and carry the plastic flowers as a few of us took public transport to the dinner venue.

Dinner was a safe enough affair. The only surprise was the lovely bridal shower gifts supplied by Dragon Girl. Dragon Girl made the bridal veil and all of us insisted for the bride-to be to wear veil and sash throughout dinner. Haha. After dinner, we hopped over to the club where we had made reservations. That's when the fun started!! The four of us took turns drinking mixed Scotch with the bride-to-be and in the course of trying to get her drunk, the rest of us became quite high too. Some fellow clubbers at the next table decided to join in the fun and started toasting the bride-to-be too. The bride-to-be was obviously high but none of us knew how far gone she was until she did not come of the washroom cubicle despite us repeatedly banging on the door!

How much did we drink? Well, the six of us finished a bottle Chivas within 2 hours! That was how much we drank! The icing on the cake, while a few of us went to the Ladies with the bride-to-be, one of the members of the entourage ordered another bottle of Chivas. So after, sending the bride-to-be off with her Prince Charming, we continued drinking. Man, I feel so sick now, so excuse me if this entry does not make too much sense.

Taiwan Trip Part 1

The one thing which I gained during my trip to Taiwan was more weight!! Ha ha. During my nine days there I ate non-stop. From the moment we stepped out of the hotel until we got back. We walked ALOT too but obviously all that walking did not help when we were eating and eating and eating all the time. The food in Taiwan is fantastic and the best food are those found at the night markets and small shops, not in restaurants. I do not know why but the bubble tea there tastes sooooooo much better than here. Considering I have had not any bubble tea for at least one year before my trip, I had three huge cups while I was there! Man, I am still dreaming about the bubble tea I had there.

The bed and breakfast I stayed at in Hualien, the owner is really nice auntie and she made fantastic ginger milk tea for breakfast. Her ginger milk tea is the yummiest I have drank to date and she is such a nice lady and her B&B is really nice that if I ever go back to Hualien, I will surely stay at her B&B! As you can see, I really enjoyed myself there! She was also the one who introduced me and my friends to roasted chicken backside! Yes, you read right! That was the most adventurous food I had in Taiwan and you know what, it tasted really good!! Yum, yum. There was so much I enjoyed about Hualien and I will definately recommend it to people as a place to visit but that shall come in another blog entry.

Sadly, I did not take pictures of all the food that I ate but I did manage to remember for some before I gobbled it all down!

Ah Zong
The famous Ah Chung Mian Xian at Xi Men Ding. Flour noodles with pig's internal organs! I liked it so much I made my friends go back with me a second time! The really interesting thing is that its just a shop front and there are no tables and chairs for customers to sit. People just buy a bowl, add in the codiments they want (vinegar and chilli) then stand around the shop and start eating. After you are done, you leave the bowl in one of the buckets which the owner has left outside the shop. And this shop is in the hip and trendy part of Taipei!! Unbelievable but yep, its the truth!

Train Takeaway
DSCN1449
Taiwan Rail is famous for the bian dang they sell on the trains. I ate this en-route from Taipei to Hualien. I was sitting next to my friend, Lala when she suddenly turned to me and asked me if I wanted to share a bian dang with her. Since lunch was barely 2 hours ago, I gave her a super horrified look and exclaimed, "WHAT! You are hungry already!!!???" Upon which, she became quite embarrassed and replied that she just wanted to try the bian dang!! Ha ha. The bian dang was really yummy. Everything in it was really DELICIOUS, from the rice to the pork chop, boiled egg, soya skin and vegetables. Poor Line, she slept through the train ride and did not have a chance to try the bian dang and scolded me and Lala for not waking her up!! Hee hee.

Dumplings
This little shop in Hualien only serves meat dumplings. One of the former President of Taiwan ate there before and its a really famous and popular shop in Hualien. The meat dumplings were really delicious. The meat was sweet and really tasty and the soup hot. This was one of the best meat dumplings I have ever tasted! There were around 10 in each bowl and quite big, not like those small ones sold in Singapore. Wish they will open a franchise in Singapore!

DSCN1540
DSCN1541
Our afternoon tea at the harbour in Hualien. Freshly made fish balls, freah salmon sashimi and fried bee hoon. The salmon sashimi was really cheap, only SGD 5!! Since Line do not eat raw food, Lala and I shared that box between us.

Pork noodles
DSCN1542
Our dinner on our second night in Haulien. Pork chop noodles, meat ball soup and boiled eggs with soya sauce. The meat ball soup was kind of disappointing but the pork chop noodles and eggs was really delicious. The pork chop was just so fragrant and fried just right. Drooooooool.

IMG_0873
The rice dumpling I ate for lunch on our last day in Hualien. Line ate two of this coz it tasted quite food but regretted when we went to a farm after lunch. There was a cafe at the farm which sold cheese cake, yogurt and drinks. Yum yum yum! The food at the cafe was really good and Line "forced" herself to eat it. But all through out, she kept questioning her good sense as to why she ate two rice dumplings! And how if she did not, then she could have eaten more of the food at the cafe!! Ha ha.

DSCN1611
Hua Zhi Geng at night market in Kao Shiong. Its a thick soup with squid and cuttlefish. Personally, I do not like squid and cuttlefish but this soup was really nice. I thought I will just drink one mouthful for the sake of trying then stop but ended up drinking a second, then a third and then I lost count!!

Of course there were much much more stuff I ate but here ends the pictures of the food which I ate in Taiwan.

Stuffed!

Just came back from my dinner date with Monoceros and VanTan. I am so stuffed now! We had italian food at this little restaurant at Prinsep Street recommended by Vantan. The food was ok and the company was great. I still love Valentino's best but its so far away and its always nice to try new places. Vantan took picures, don't know if she will be posting but if you are interested, go check out her blog.

We agreed that we wanted the rocket salad so that was what we started with. That one was good but then again, the three of us like rocket salad. Ha ha. We had quite a tough time choosing the pasta coz there were just so many varieties to choose from! In the end, we ended up with 3 types of pasta and ended off the meal with tiramisu. I must say that the squid and black ink sauce pasta was a good choice coz it was something different and tasted good. Personally, I am not a squid person but I enjoyed this pasta so it must have been quite delicious! :c) The rest of the food was ok and the dessert only so-so. I have tasted better tiramisu around. But always nice to try out new places, since I think I do try out new places enough!

See you again, DSD

I refuse to say good bye, I would rather this be a short period of seperation before we see each other again. DSD flew off to London this morning in search of dreams and what-nots. I am happy for her that she has decided to do this as I think there are just some things that have to be done when we are still young and have the courage to still do. I did not write her card in time and I did not spend much time with her before she flew so I shall try to somehow make it up in this blog entry and with some help from one of my favourite songs of the moment.

Although both of us are quite different in terms of personalities, however we have somehow managed to be good friends for many years. And of course there are the countless little and big secrets we have kept for each other which few other people know about. She is one of the few people whom I can try to lie to but she always see through me so I know I can always count on her whenever I need advice coz I can lie to myself but not to her. Just wanted you to know that I will really miss you, DSD and dream BIG!

And may our friendship always be strong no matter where we are........ Although I think the lyrics are not exactly suitable but I think its a lovely song about friendship.

Crazy people meetup

I met up with some friends whom I made during my university days on Monday. Its really nice to know that as the years past and our stress levels rocket, some people are still are crazy as ever. The food at the place we met up was forgettable but the company was great. Busy as I was, I was very happy to have made time to attend the dinner! Maybe I should be doing this more often! :c)

Surprise!

I have long ago given up sending Christmas cards and buying Christmas presents for my close friends as it got too stressful trying to think of meaningful presents to give everyone and with modern technology, sending e-cards just seem so much more efficient. Ok, but the bottomline is that, I am plain lazy lah!! Hee hee. Lazy to think of what to buy and answering similar questions from friends on what I would like to receive. Lazy to write loads of Christmas cards and sending them out.

Every year, some friends will still surprise me with Christmas cards and I always feel very touched when I receive such cards, probably because I had been too lazy myself to bother with the effort and yet someone else had made an effort to think of me and send a card! Anyway, the purpose of this entry is dedicated to a good friend who not only gave me my first Christmas card this year and a present too! I do not know any other way to thank her for the plesant surprise so I am writing this blog entry to thank her. She is after all one of the last people I would expect to receive a card from as she is definately the most tech-savvy of all my friends. So the following message is for her:

"Thanks so much for the card, present and thoughts. I will enjoy using the present! Have a Merry Christmas!"

I miss my friends!

I have been scolded many times by numerous friends about not turning up at special celebrations and not being able to commit my attendance for outings. So for all of you out there, I really do miss all of you. I miss the bitching sessions, the bimbo sessions, the shopping sessions, the KTV sessions, the pigging-out sessions and long telephone conversations. Sometimes, I am just so tired from work, all I have energy for is sitting at home doing nothing. Please continue to include me in your invitations although I do always turn up but just wanted to let all of you know, that you are in my thoughts.

There are so many things I want to catch up on, just to list a few so if any of you reading know the answers, please keep me updated:
1) How is M and her baby boy C?
2) How excited is W J about her pregnancy?
3) How are W, SW, JJ and XH getting on?
4) What exciting new places for food and shopping have J and R discovered?

The above are just a few things that popped into my mind as I write this. Now, I need to get back to work again.

Saturday night out

Once in a while, I have a life too. It was X and JJ joint birthday celebrations and our excuse to meet up, eat expensive food and gossip! Ha ha ha. The venue this time was a Japanese restaurant at Raffles Hotel called "Kaizan". The food was fabulous and JJ was exclaiming loudly with every mouthful she took, "This is sooooooo goooood!!!", accompanied with a blissful look on her face! I thought the same too but I umh, kept my thoughts to myself! Of course good food comes with a price. The meal was expensive but the sashimi was very fresh, the salmon and avocado maki was simply heavenly and the handroll was so very yummy. Good value for the price but expect to pay alot if you want to eat till you are stuffed!

After dinner, more indulgence and gossip, this time over dessert at Coffee Club. The "peach garden" tea I had was yummy and the rest of the drinks look rather good too but is it my imagination or is the standard of the desserts at Coffee Club sliding. The "Muddy Mudpie" was too sweet and tasted like cheap ice cream. The tiramisu tasted forgettable. But the company was ACE!!! The people around us probably thought we were crazy as we took turns to take pictures of each other using our handphones and insisting on deleting the "ugly" ones that did not meet our expectations! Hee hee. Yes, we are all in our late twenties but still behave like a gaggle of schoolgirls when out in public!!!

An Unexpected Meeting

As I was on my way home tonight, I ran into JJ whom I have not met in months at the train station. Immediately, we plunged full gear into a gossip session! Ok, it was more like an exchange of news lah. But it was a really plesant surprise running into her there.

Really miss all of you, X, JJ, SW and W. Hey, its the five year anniversary of our Europe trip soon. Sigh, remember our grand plans five years ago to be back in Paris this summer and stay at Hotel Nikkon there. It all seem just like yesterday, I can't believe how fast these five years have flown past!

My Favourite Korean Hunk!

Its been quite a relaxed week at work due to inefficiencies of a certain client. Going to suffer next week but oh well, I might as well take advantage of being able to get off work early while I can!

Decided to meet up with good friend, S for dinner because its been quite a while since I met up with her and urm.......... because I wanted to borrow her Giordano discount card. Hmmmm, why Giordano, because my favourite Korean hunk is the new Giordano model. Ha ha ha and he looks soooooo good in the ads that I have to go buy those clothes! OK, come on, I am not THAT bimbotic lah! I am past due for new casual clothes and the new collection at Giordano looks really colourful and lovely! And of course, that Korean hunk looks soooooooo good in the ads. Drool.........

Anyway, after a lovely dinner at Crystal Jade, S and I went shopping! Its been so long since I had time to make dinner appointments with friends! Hmmm, really miss that. S probably got really bored because I kept dragging her from shop to shop and trying on numerous pieces of clothing and asking her for her opinion. Finally at 8 plus, we ended up at Giordano and both of us went crazy there, selecting clothes to try on. The new collection is really lovely, bursting in bright sunny colours! I ended buying 2 long sleeves T-shirts and 1 short sleeve T-shirt. Too bad the local collection is different from the Korean one and they do not carry the items my Korean hunk wore in the Korean ads or I would have ended up buying more! Ha ha ha.

p.s. Thanks S, for accompanying me in my crazy shopping quest and for use of your Giordano discount card!

p.s. again Click here to see my favourite Korean hunk in the new Giordano Korea ads.

Wedding bells

A good friend from college, K got married today. It was my first visit to the Registry of Marriage. Actually, I found the place rather cheesy and so did my other friends, DSD, V, E and J. They would announce the names of the couple when its their turn with the Justice of Peace over a public announcement system, similar to how it is when its your turn to see the doctor at a government clinic! And the whole atmosphere of the place is lacking in romance!!! Worst of all, on a big screen in the waiting area, videos on National Family Campaign were being played, encouraging citizens to have children and the joys of having children. Man, was it tacky or what!

Anyway, just want to congratulate the happy couple and thank them for the lovely buffet lunch they hosted after the ceremony!

Good friends and good food

I always feel that good food taste better when shared with friends or family. Which is why I cannot stand to eat with people who like to count calories when eating. Oh come on, a few calories is not going to make that much of a difference lah!

Last weekend was a gastronomic adventure of sorts with good friends. I met up with R for high tea at the Royal Copenhagen Tea Lounge. The queue was rather long but I managed to get the two of us a table while waiting for "R who was stuck in a traffic jam" to turn up. The Tea Lounge is tuck away in a corner of one of the busiest shopping malls in Orchard Road and I refuse to say which one or else the queue may become even longer and I will have to queue for an even longer time in future!!! Hee hee! The lounge itself occupies a rather small area but the full wall of windows overlooking Orchard Road makes it a lovely place for tea and idle chit chat. Its called the Royal Copenhagen Tea Lounge as all its tableware and cutlery are from the porcelain brand "Royal Copenhagen". But its not the lovely tableware that makes the dining experience such a delight. Its the delicious cakes and tea. R (who had not had lunch yet)had a shrimp salad that was overflowing with shrimp and we shared a slice of orange cheese cake and a slice of green tea cake. Both cakes were really lovely. The cheese cake was light with faint orange undertone and the green tea cake was the best I had ever tasted!! Moist and a strong enough green tea flavour but not overpowering. Yummy! We each ordered a pot of tea along with the cakes. She had their signature blend (a variant of English Breakfast blend) and I had Darjeeling. I liked mine better as I found the signature blend a little too weak in flavour. Hey Overacuppa, I will bring you there the next time you come back, you will LOVE it there!

A few hours after my lovely high tea. I met up with another group of friends for a birthday celebration. We went to a lovely Mediterranean restuarant in Holland Village called "Original Sin". I had no idea what sort of food the restuarant served until I looked at the menu and realised that I would be having a vegetarian dinner. OK, I admit, I am a carnivore. I need meat in my diet or else I get cranky! And vegetarian food always gave me the impression that its bound to be tasteless and boiled or steamed. Perusing the menu was stressful as I kept hoping for some meat dish to jump out from the selection. Finally I settled on the tofu patties with mushroom sauce. My friends selected some starters and pizzas for sharing and I was still feeling disappointed with the food.

The starter was a mushroom dish baked with cheese and on my first bite, my impression of vegetarian food totally changed. It was simply delicious! Vegetarian food never tasted soooooooo good! It was unbelieveably yummy! The rest of the dinner was just as lovely as the group of us passed our food around the table and tasted the different mains that each of us have ordered. (Ok, I know that is not very hygenic but we have been friends for many years and are not icky about such things anymore!) The only complaint I have about the food was the salt. Everything was a little too salty for my taste! But overall, the food was fantastic and my impression of vegetarian food is forever changed!

The Importance of Friendship

I know I have been very busy these past months, thank you all my friends for remembering to include me in all your activities and celebrations. And for making me put in effort to meet up with you. I am really sorry that I had missed some meetings but I would really like you to know that your friendships are just as important to me. :c)

These past few months of being a workaholic has changed my life alot. I sleep alot less now and spend alot less time at home. Many days, I come home to sleep and am off to work the next morning. As an example, I have not watched a movie in six months! And my attempt to watch one last weekend failed because there was no suitable timing available. And my gym card is taking a break in my purse, just as my fats are multiplying!

But most of all, the changes in myself and the people around me are much more glaring now due to decreased interaction. Some have moved away and some closer but we are all different from yesterday. Sometimes I wish I were more outspoken and more able to speak my thoughts. But just as I would like others to be sensitive to my feelings, I try to be sensitive too. Just because we do not share similar perspectives about certain issues, it does not mean I disagree with you. It simply means we have different opinions and priorities. We all have different reservations and my opinions are worth something to me, so please be kind.

Farewell Overacuppa

Overacuppa has flown away back to Scotland. Popped over to her place before she left for the airport to say "good bye" and conveniently snitched more of the yummy Christmas cookies that F's mum made for her family! DSD dropped by later and we had some last minute fun with Overacuppa's new digital camera. Maybe next year I will go over for a visit and explore more of Scotland! I will really miss her! Finally got to meet her friend F who was a really good sport at the KTV. He is loads of fun! Overacuppa, do bring him here for more visits in future ok! Hope he didn't go away thinking that Overacuppa has crazy friends though!

Just a note to Overacuppa:
No, I am not deleting the videos I took with my mobile at the KTV, shall show them to Monoceros when she comes back! And when I am not so busy with work, I shall find a way to transfer them to my laptop and send them to you! Anyway, do take care and don't let the computer bugs get to you!

Shopaholic strikes again!

Overacuppa is back and I am on leave! Whoppee! We met up with DSD for lunch on Friday, after which DSD went back to work and Overacuppa and I decided to head down to Orchard Road. Overacuppa and I took a leisure walk in Singapore's financial district as we made for the nearest MRT station. I showed her where my office is located and pointed out to her some of the eating places where DSD and I would meet up for lunch from time to time. (DSD: I am missing Indian food, don't know when I will be in office during lunch time though!)

When we reached Orchard Road, I proceeded to drag Overacuppa shopping! I have to buy a number of presents for gift exchanges so in and out of shops we went, but the only stuff I ended buying were for myself! Its official, I am not safe around shopping malls! Overacuppa had to leave at 5pm so I continued on my own. Up to that point, all I bought were essential items such as hair conditioner and some books. Then I walked past Marks and Spencer and could not resist going in to take a peek. And ended with a lovely calendar and some chocolates to be given away as gifts! Well, that's ok, have not made any major purchases yet. Guess what, as I walked past GG<5, I saw this sign.............."RELOCATION SALE"! Man, my eyes immediately lit up and I simply had to go in and try on some of the stuff! I ended with 2 new tops! Yah yah, I am a shopaholic lah.

Bursting at the seams!

Just came back from a seafood pig out with some friends and received an invitation to meet up from another group of friends. I feel so glad to know that I still have friends even after I have turned workaholic!

It has been quite some time since I ate so much! I was really late for my dinner appointment as I was held up in office (so what's new!) and the minute I sat down, I started eating up the fried buns, the prawn rolls (yummy! :cP), chilli crabs and yam ring. The food was good and the company was even better. Its been a long time since I had so much fun and felt so relaxed!

Friendship is such an amazing thing, even though I do not meet up very often with some friends, yet I always have so much fun whenever I am with them. Time kinda stands still during such gatherings and we are all transported back to our schooldays where our biggest worries revolved around homework and exams, no longer are we nameless participants in the rat race!

Once upon a time...........

So, now that I have my own blog, what shall I do. Ok, of course I am really excited and want to thank all those who have made this possible. There is Vantan, who is the main gal and tech brains behind all this, without whom, I would never have known where and how to navigate and use this thing. And there is of course DSD, Overacuppa and Monoceros who contributed their time, effort and money then the four of them collectively "coerce" me into becoming a blogger. "We all have blogs, when are you going to start yours!! C'mon, it will be really fun you know." So that's how it all started. Peer pressure!!! Ha ha ha. So, now I have started, I hope I will keep everyone enthralled with my posts and this blog will help me become a more technologically savvy person!! Ha ha ha. As if!!!
