A little update
I have received feedback that it has been super long since there were any new entries on my little blog. Oh well, many things have happened since my last entry.
I have quit my job and will be starting a new job next week which will take me to many new places. Its kind of scary and I am really sad to leave behind the friends I have made in my last job. But I suppose there comes a time when you know that its time to leave place and move on in life. Its really kind of funny when I think about it. I have stayed almost 4 years in the job but upon submitting my resignation letter, I left the firm in a month. Anyway, I am leaving that part of my life in my memories and hopefully making new happy memories soon.
I have watched two Mayday concerts. One in Singapore and another in Taiwan. That is probably about the craziest thing I have done this year so far. After their concert this Saturday in Hong Kong, there will be no more Mayday concerts till 2009. That is soooo sad. However, I am looking forward to their new album! Love the new song that Ashin has already released on his blog. Stay tuned for more entries on my Taiwan trip and Mayday.
The main reason that I have not been blogging much was because my faithful desktop died on me. After 4 years of faithful service, the motherboard just upped and died on me. I nearly fainted from shock as I have not backed up my stuff for a really long time. But it just refused to start at all. So I have spent the last few months lugging my office laptop back and forth which was very irritating. And of course I was simply too lazy to get my desktop fixed. However, today, my spiffy new Dell has arrived so I have a new toy to play with. Ha ha, hopefully that means I will blog more often.
Anyways, my little update ends here, I wanna go play with my new toy now.....

Bangkok 2007
I think one of the highlights of the trips I take is the food that I eat. I popped over to Bangkok last December to visit XZ who was working there at that time. The lure of free 5 star accomodation was just not resistable!! However as I went during a public holiday, my air tickets were horrendously expensive.
This was my first trip to Bangkok. Yah, I know, its rather funny that I have been to Europe, USA and Australia but have seen so little of Asia. For the record, I have never been to Hong Kong also but I intend to remedy that this year. Many people have laughed at me already that I have never been to Hong Kong and Bangkok since those destinations are so common to Singaporeans so if you are laughing, you are not the first.
Besides the food I ate in Bangkok, the other thing that remains deeply etched in my memory from my Bangkok trip is the amount of walking I did while I was there. Yes, XZ, I am going to keep talking about it!! Ha ha. My dear friend XZ insisted that I should see as much of Bangkok as possible and since everything is within walking distance, we walked and we walked and we WALKED! By the end of my first night, my feet were aching very badly. Ok, looking back, I am quite glad XZ made me walk so much coz I really got to see alot of things and went to many places. And dear XZ kept laughing at me coz by the end of the second night, I was limping. She could not believe how lousy my stamina was!
The first night, XZ brought me to Jim Thompson warehouse where I spent alot of time looking and ended buying a polo shirt and some accessories for myself. Then we went on to Bangkok's hip shopping district MBK and just browsed the shops there. After that, we had MK for dinner. I am so sick of MK now. I had it when I was in Phuket in October and then again in Bangkok in December. Dun wanna see MK again for some time!! After dinner, we walked and finally ended the night with a good massage. When in Thailand, going for massage is also something that cannot be missed out.
On my second day, XZ went to work while I slept late in the hotel. Then I took the BTS and hit the shops. Walked alot but did not buy much. Everything is so small size in Bangkok and of course Fatgirl had difficulty buying clothes there. Actually I ended up buying very little this trip. Most of my money was spent on food and the only major purchase was bras! Yep, the bras in Thailand are definately cheaper than in Singapore! After work, XZ met up with me and we did more walking. We had a light dinner at one of the shopping malls and that was when I ate the hottest salad ever. If you know me, you will know that I have a super high tolerance for chilli. In fact, chilli is a staple in my meals but this salad nearly KILLED me. It was so damn hot that XZ and I were close to tears after every mouthful and I think our tongues were numbed after eating it. After that, we went to the night market where XZ had to help her friend buy some stuff. XZ was insistent that we not go for a massage although I was quite keen. She thought I was crazy to want to go so many times just becoz its half price as compared to Singapore!
On my last day, we woke up early to go to Chatuchak Weekend Market. It was really huge and really hot as the shops are packed really close to one another and there were MANY people there. Besides, clothes and souveniers, on sale were art pieces, pets and furniture! Luckily we went to the market early and it was not so crowded. But a really unfortunate event happened when I was there. I got a really bad stomache and had to go the toilet. As you already know, I was at a market and I can tell you, the toilet was quite gross. It was like "eeeewwwww"
After that, XZ brought me to a really nice restaurant at Chidlom for lunch. It was the yummiest meal I had in Bangkok but also the most stressful. XZ was going back on an earlier flight than me so we had to hurry through lunch for her to get to the airport. She insists that we had to hurry coz in her words, "You walk so damn slow and spent so much time in the toilet at Chatuchak lah. So now, have to eat faster or we will never make it back to the hotel in time!" After XZ left for the airport, I went for my last massage in Bangkok as I was going back on a later flight.
All in all, I had a really enjoyable time in Bangkok and thanks to XZ for showing me such a great time!
The super duper hot salad. Looks so harmless but packs a punch!

Soya sauce pork rice. Another one of Bangkok's famous food. XZ and I were already halfway through this plate when I remembered to take a photo! Yums!

The yummiest meal I had in Bangkok! Ceasar salad, thick tom yum soup with seafood and of course, pad thai! Can't leave Thailand without eating Pad Thai at least once when you are there!

Taiwan Trip Part 2
Someone left me a comment about the Taiwan trip I took last year in March and that was when I realised that I never finished blogging about it!
I visited the usual tourist spots in Taipei. However, the place that left a really deep impression on the trip was Hua Lien. The scenery there was super gorgeous and the hostel that I stayed in was fantastic!! The owner of the hostel is a super friendly auntie and she makes the most FANTASTIC breakfast!!
The Stone House Hostel that I stayed in Hua Lien

As part of the entertainment provided at the hostel, we were invited by Auntie Liu to paint rocks. All materials are provided by Auntie Liu. What a cool way to spend time with friends on a holiday!! At the end of our stay, Auntie Liu gave us the rocks to bring home as momentos. These are my handiworks!

Line and I at the beach. It was super cold then!!

Along the shoreline of Hua Lien

And here's one of Line renacting a scene from Titanic!! Ha ha.

Back from Brisbane
Before I had even finished writing about my Taiwan Trip, I have gone on yet another trip. This time to attend my brother's graduation in Brisbane. My main aim in going was to get away of course and also to SHOP!! Ha ha. That is really my favourite pastime. Yet its such a costly pastime!! Shop I did, I bought a total of 21 pieces of clothing and 1 pair of shoes in Brisbane. Scary isn't it, yep, I was quite horrified too when I did a final count of what I bought! Too bad my digital camera is spoilt or I will take pictures of all the stuff I bought and post it. Ha ha.

It's my party and I'll cry if I want to.....
As extracted from Wikipedia about the song titled "It's My Party": "The song's chorus ("It's my party, and I'll cry if I want to, You would cry too, if it happened to you") quickly became a part of American pop cultural language, as a phrase used to describe being utterly humiliated and miserable during an event that is supposed to be a happy occasion."
Well, no better words describe how I feel now. I just want to crawl into a hole, cover myself and never come out. Sometimes I just do not know anymore why I put in those hours and put up with those people. At the end of the day, for what, a few measly dollars that I cannot even bring along with me when I die. And when I am dead and gone, no one is going to bloody remember how much was my monthly paycheck. In fact, maybe no one is even going to remember me since all I ever do is work!

Ouch!
I sprained my ankle and I have no idea how I sprained it. I know that sounds absurd but its true. I felt a pain in my right ankle last afternoon but thought nothing of it. It became so bad later in the night that I had difficulty walking from my office to the lift to bring myself home. I was in so much pain I wanted to cry by the time I managed to get myself into a cab to go home. I went to see a chinese physician this morning and he confirmed that I sprained my ankle. Its still very painful now and I try not to move too much as its so damn painful everytime I walk. Don't know if I can make it to Vantan's concert tomorrow, hope I can still limp my way there!

Taiwan Trip Part 1
The one thing which I gained during my trip to Taiwan was more weight!! Ha ha. During my nine days there I ate non-stop. From the moment we stepped out of the hotel until we got back. We walked ALOT too but obviously all that walking did not help when we were eating and eating and eating all the time. The food in Taiwan is fantastic and the best food are those found at the night markets and small shops, not in restaurants. I do not know why but the bubble tea there tastes sooooooo much better than here. Considering I have had not any bubble tea for at least one year before my trip, I had three huge cups while I was there! Man, I am still dreaming about the bubble tea I had there.
The bed and breakfast I stayed at in Hualien, the owner is really nice auntie and she made fantastic ginger milk tea for breakfast. Her ginger milk tea is the yummiest I have drank to date and she is such a nice lady and her B&B is really nice that if I ever go back to Hualien, I will surely stay at her B&B! As you can see, I really enjoyed myself there! She was also the one who introduced me and my friends to roasted chicken backside! Yes, you read right! That was the most adventurous food I had in Taiwan and you know what, it tasted really good!! Yum, yum. There was so much I enjoyed about Hualien and I will definately recommend it to people as a place to visit but that shall come in another blog entry.
Sadly, I did not take pictures of all the food that I ate but I did manage to remember for some before I gobbled it all down!

The famous Ah Chung Mian Xian at Xi Men Ding. Flour noodles with pig's internal organs! I liked it so much I made my friends go back with me a second time! The really interesting thing is that its just a shop front and there are no tables and chairs for customers to sit. People just buy a bowl, add in the codiments they want (vinegar and chilli) then stand around the shop and start eating. After you are done, you leave the bowl in one of the buckets which the owner has left outside the shop. And this shop is in the hip and trendy part of Taipei!! Unbelievable but yep, its the truth!

Taiwan Rail is famous for the bian dang they sell on the trains. I ate this en-route from Taipei to Hualien. I was sitting next to my friend, Lala when she suddenly turned to me and asked me if I wanted to share a bian dang with her. Since lunch was barely 2 hours ago, I gave her a super horrified look and exclaimed, "WHAT! You are hungry already!!!???" Upon which, she became quite embarrassed and replied that she just wanted to try the bian dang!! Ha ha. The bian dang was really yummy. Everything in it was really DELICIOUS, from the rice to the pork chop, boiled egg, soya skin and vegetables. Poor Line, she slept through the train ride and did not have a chance to try the bian dang and scolded me and Lala for not waking her up!! Hee hee.

This little shop in Hualien only serves meat dumplings. One of the former President of Taiwan ate there before and its a really famous and popular shop in Hualien. The meat dumplings were really delicious. The meat was sweet and really tasty and the soup hot. This was one of the best meat dumplings I have ever tasted! There were around 10 in each bowl and quite big, not like those small ones sold in Singapore. Wish they will open a franchise in Singapore!

Our afternoon tea at the harbour in Hualien. Freshly made fish balls, freah salmon sashimi and fried bee hoon. The salmon sashimi was really cheap, only SGD 5!! Since Line do not eat raw food, Lala and I shared that box between us.

Our dinner on our second night in Haulien. Pork chop noodles, meat ball soup and boiled eggs with soya sauce. The meat ball soup was kind of disappointing but the pork chop noodles and eggs was really delicious. The pork chop was just so fragrant and fried just right. Drooooooool.

The rice dumpling I ate for lunch on our last day in Hualien. Line ate two of this coz it tasted quite food but regretted when we went to a farm after lunch. There was a cafe at the farm which sold cheese cake, yogurt and drinks. Yum yum yum! The food at the cafe was really good and Line "forced" herself to eat it. But all through out, she kept questioning her good sense as to why she ate two rice dumplings! And how if she did not, then she could have eaten more of the food at the cafe!! Ha ha.

Hua Zhi Geng at night market in Kao Shiong. Its a thick soup with squid and cuttlefish. Personally, I do not like squid and cuttlefish but this soup was really nice. I thought I will just drink one mouthful for the sake of trying then stop but ended up drinking a second, then a third and then I lost count!!
Of course there were much much more stuff I ate but here ends the pictures of the food which I ate in Taiwan.

Hello
I realised recently that many of my friends actually visit this blog to get an update on my life. Thank you all for stopping by and for being interested in what I have been up to although I must say that I have been quite anti-social these past few years.
Anyway, the lack of a proper entry recently is as usual due me being busy with work and being too lazy to write after work. There are still many things I have to write about, like my trip to Taiwan, the movies and plays I watched recently and my recent visit to Ministry of Sound. But I have no inspiration so all that have to wait another day.
I am fine, still busy with work and stressed out all the time until my bowel movements have been badly affected. Still finding a way to cure that. I will try to write a proper entry soon so do drop by again soon! Take care in the meantime.

A day in the life of a part-time actor
A few years ago, I signed up with the local television station to be a part-time actor. The whole process has become a hazy memory and I seriously cannot remember how I got to know that they were looking for part-time actors! Anyway, they have never called me up and I thought that the audition video I had recorded at their request and my resume must have either landed in the nearest dustbin or is hidden away in some dusty corner.
To cut a long story short, they called me up last week for a role in an upcoming drama serial. It was a walk-on role of a customer who is the old friend of the restaurant owner. Since I have never tried acting on television, I decided to skip a day of work to get my 5 seconds on local television. Of course I applied for leave without telling the people at my office what exactly I was up to! Ha ha.
Anyway the day came and I made my way to the TV station, obtained my visitor pass at the gate and headed for wardrobe. After telling them what my role was, I was asked to change into a brighter colour top as the top I was wearing was too dull. After that, I was asked to go to make up. At make up, I felt as though I had stepped into a local variety show/drama as all the people hanging around were the local TV stars. It was kind of weird and I felt seriously out of place there as the people around me chatted with each other. It was not as if I could turn to the person next to me and start to make small talk!! And what will I say?? "Hi, so you are an actor?!" That will be so duh and it was not as if it was S.H.E. sitting next to me! Finally, someone came to my rescue and asked me what role I was suppose to play and which drama serial. He concluded that I did not need anymore make up and I gladly exited from the room to wait for the assistant producer to assign me to my vehicle.
I sat in the same van as the TV extras and it then it hit me that I have no idea where the van was heading. But I figured if anything, I will just hop into a cab and leave, it was not as if I was in this for the measly amount they were paying me! The hourly rate I charge clients in my day job is already more than 5 times what the local television station is paying me for a day's work! Location turned out to be a restaurant in Joo Chiat Road. There we waited for the crew to get the scene ready. As I sat there, I realised that this drama is a big production as sitting across from me, at the next table is one of local television's biggest star! (Hint: She had the opportunity to act with Jackie Chan in a Hollywood movie previously.) And several of local television's hottest young actors are also involved in this drama!! Abit strange to see these actors up close and I realised that I am really not excited about acting opposite these people, maybe because I do not watch much local television in the first place and the last local drama I have watched was years, yes, years ago! (I watch cable television channels lah.) Just to side track, I think "she who has acted before with Jackie Chan" looks really good in real life. She is 36 this year if I am not mistaken but looks like she is still in her 20s and her skin is fabulous! So fabulous that I was tempted to ask her what skin care products does she use and her daily skin regime!! Ha ha! I had to keep myself from staring at her face coz her complexion is darn good!!
Ok, now for my role. Basically, I had two scenes in the drama. In the first scene, I was to walk up to my old friend, (played by one of local television's male stars) and congratulate him on the opening of his new restaurant. In the second scene, he will sit me down at a table and introduce to me the specialities that his reataurant serves. I must say that it was very entertaining working with him. He was very nice throughout the two scenes although he is suppose to be a local TV star and have been for some years now. I NG-ed once each time for my two scenes but luckily I got them right at the second take for both scenes. However, I had to repeat my first scene several times because other people kept NG-ing!! There was not much acting skills involved in my scenes and I was one of the earliest to finish for the day. As I chatted with the extras, I was told that they were going to shoot till 9pm that night!!
My thoughts on my first television experience. I must say, I was right that I prefer television acting to stage work. Stage work is so much more exhasting as the actor has to play the same character over and over again but of course there is alot less waiting time involved. In television work, the actors spend most of their time sitting around waiting and waiting. Waiting for the set to be ready, waiting for the next scene etc and of course the script does not repeat like in stage work, where its repetitive hence memorising once is enough. Most of all, through this experience, I realise that I still enjoy acting and it was a really interesting experience so if the local television station comes calling again and my schedule permits, I will be acting again!

My Chiang Mai Trip
I did manage to get away for a short trip after all. I took a short trip with my family to Chiang Mai during the week. This must be the most unprepared trip I have ever taken. I came home from work at 3 plus in the morning, packed my bags and hoped onto the plane at 6 plus! I did not do any research about the place I was going or planned how should I spend my time there! Shocking, I know. Which is probably why I ended going for massage and shopping while I was there only and was nearly bored to death there. Nope, didn't see no elephant training camp or any temple or any museums. Just went for massage and throng the night bazaar everyday and of course, slept alot lah.
The massage is so much cheaper there that I went for 2 massages within 4 days that I was there. I walked alot and ate some local food. The food was not terribly interesting, similar to the Thai fare available here, except much much cheaper. I walked alot at the night bazaar too but did not end up with much, bought some shawls for myself and tom yum flavoured cashew nuts. And since I am suffering from World Cup Fever, I bought some soccer jerseys to share with my brother too. Yep it was a very boring 4 days, spent it walking, sleeping and basically doing a whole lot of nothing.
I really don't feel like going back to work! Boo Hoo HOO!

Fatgirl wants to play tennis again!
DSD and Monoceros invited me to play tennis today. But I was having a slight flu so I suggested that I meet them after their tennis session for dinner instead.
Sigh, I remember the days back in secondary school where I would play tennis every week, watched every Grand Slam and major tournaments. I kept track of the rankings of my favourite tennis players and kept newspaper clippings of them too! I was so into tennis then but over the years and along the way, I stopped playing tennis and today, I no longer watch tennis anymore or even know who is listed in the ATP rankings! Someday, soon, hopefully I will be a tennis freak agian!

So what's new, I am still busy with work. My desk top is in a coma and I have no time to get it repaired hence no update of blog. Yep, I am still working long hours and still have no life. And soon goin to have no friends, as warned by DSD, coz I keep taking everyone for granted. That's about all that is happening in my life.

Note to self
One of my New Year resolutions:
To reply all text messages promptly.
I know it does not take very long to reply but somehow, I am one of those people who take forever to reply to text messages I receive on my handphone or I will simply forget to reply. Too many friends have complained about this. Yah, I know, it takes less than a minute to type out and send a reply but when I am really busy, I hate for stuff like this to break my concentration. Okay, a poor excuse, you say, and anyways, I always forget to reply later and sometimes take up to weeks to reply or after many reminders via more text messages. And most times, people get tired of waiting for me to reply, they will just call me to force an answer out of me.
Okay, so for everyone's peace of mind, I will endeavour to make a greater effort to reply to my text messages promptly and not be so forgetful this year.

Little scraps of paper
I have a really bad habit. I am always writing stuff down on little scraps of rough paper and many times I will just throw the scraps away without realsing that I had written down important stuff on them! I am writing this, just five minutes after I have just sieved through my trash, looking for a piece of scrap on which I had written down a really important address on! Yes, gross I know.

Classic Strawberry Shortcake
Here's the Classic version of Strawberry Shortcake! Isn't she much lovelier than the new version!Posted by Fatgirl at 10:42 PM | Comments (7)
Strawberry Shortcake
I have a confession to make, I am a really really big fan of Strawberry Shortcake! Have been since I was a kid and it seems that I still am. Although the Strawberry Shortcake that I used to be crazy about have been replaced by an updated character (a sign of how old I am already, I suppose) and the older version is called classic Strawberry Shortcake but I am still glad to have her back. Actually, I prefer the older version of Strawberry Shortcake but those products are no longer in production now and cost loads of money. I remember having a whole array of Strawberry Shortcake products when I was young; books, pencil case, wallet, mug, toothbrush, clothes and beddings. Sadly, now all I am left with are the beddings, the books and the pencil case I think. My biggest regret was that I never had a Strawberry Shortcake doll no matter how hard I cajoled my parents for one! Sigh.

Weekend getaway
Whoppee! I am going to Batam for the long weekend. The last time I stepped out of Singapore was for my Europe trip, FIVE long years ago. This Batam trip is sponsored by the company I work in so I will be trooping around with my colleagues. Hmmm, think I will just end up spending most of my time there at the spa or at the beach reading. I borrowed some books from the library based on DSD's recommendation and hope to finish at least 2 of them while lazying away at the beach. Hopefully, I will get to try some water sports too! This is all sooooo exciting!!!
p.s. Yes, I know I sound really deprived. Which I am lah, never been out of this place for soooooooo long already!

Drip, drip, cough, cough..............
In times like this, I have to admit I am a human. My body is finally breaking down from insufficient rest. I am down with flu and cough. Its been a really long time since I fell ill. Maybe I was too busy to fall ill then!! Ha ha ha. Not like I am very free now but I guess my body decided to send a gentle reminder to me to take better care of it. To be more disciplined, get more exercise, choose healthier food and sleep earlier. Argh, if only I had more discipline. :c(

Merry Christmas!
I have loved celebrating Christmas since I was a child. Partly because of my religion and partly because its an excuse to not do any work and just relax! Yes, I am inherently a lazy bum. A fat and lazy gal! Ha ha ha.
Went to church for Christmas Service this morning, it was packed full of people and additional spare chairs had to be added because all the pews were full! Pity I did not have a chance to go carolling this year as I did last year. There is just something special about Christmas Carolling that spread the Christmas cheer! Christmas always brings about a feeling of rebirth and goodwill. And it never fails to remind me that we are celebrating the Birth of Christ and that Christmas is so much more than good food and nice presents.
Merry Christmas to everyone and do remember the true meaning of Christmas as we toast each other with cheer!

Recovering
Thank you for all the kind thoughts I have received. Granny is getting better though she is still in alot of pain. I visited her only once this past week as I am down with a bad cold and have no wish to spread my virus around. Good for me that work is hectic so I have no time to think about anything else. Wish I had a little more time to watch the telly though.

Growing old
Granny is sick. Writing and saying that out loud still makes me want to cry. Maybe that will explain to many of you, why I have not been wanting to meet up and seemed to have disappeared.
Every night after work, I have been going to the hospital to sit with her. No matter how late I end work, I make it a point to visit. It all seem like yesterday when I was alot smaller than her and she was chasing me around and getting me to behave. And it seemed not too long ago when I would accompany her sometimes on her trips to the wet market.
I hate my helplessness everytime I see her. I wish I could help her just as she used to take care of my needs when I was a child. Unfortunately, the aging process is not something any of us can be of any help. I can only hold her hand and encourage her and pray for her recovery. And accept the part of me that hurts so much.
